Private Lessons

PRIVATE LESSONS

Skaters taking private lessons with IceForum coaches need to be enrolled in IceForum group classes until they have passed Pre-Freeskate.

Private Lessons offer a skater the opportunity to work one-on-one with a member of our professional staff.  These lessons will help difficult skills and/or aid in advancing through our group program more quickly with greater proficiency.  Working with a private instructor also enables the skater to begin competing as well as learn more advanced skills that are not included in the group class curriculum.

For skaters in Snowplow Sam and Basic 1-Pre-Freeskate, private lessons are taught during Public Sessions.  Skaters in Freeskate 1 and above take private lessons on Private Ice, also known as freestyle sessions or freestyles. Private lessons are a great supplement to group classes in the Basic 1 through Pre-Freeskate levels! Skaters in these levels must be enrolled in IceForum group classes to take private lessons with an IceForum coach.

Lesson fees vary from coach to coach, and rates begin at $12 per 20 minute lesson. All IceForum coaches are current members of the PSA (Professional Skaters Association) and US Figure Skating, and are held to industry standards of professionalism, ethics, and safety.

BOOSTER LESSONS

Booster lessons, unlike private lessons, are not recurring. However, they can help you achieve a specific skill or boost your confidence on the skills that you have already learned. Booster lessons require the same protocol as other private lessons regarding ice fees and lesson fees.  Contact your favorite coach for availability and scheduling.

LESSON PAYMENTS

All coaches are independent contractors and are paid directly. Each coach may have specific payment requirements and should be confirmed prior to lessons given. In addition to lesson fees, each skater is responsible for ice time fees.

SKATING FEES

Skating on Public Session and/or Private Ice requires payment. Public Sessions are $12 with a $4 skate rental fee (if needed).  Private Ice stickers are to be placed on the Private Ice session sheet prior to stepping on the ice surface. This confirms payment and reserves your spot as a maximum of 24 skaters will be allowed on a session. Individual private Ice stickers can be purchased for $12.00 per 40 minute session, or you may purchase a 10 sticker sheet for $110.00.

SELECTING A COACH

CONGRATULATIONS on your decision to enhance your skating career with private instruction. Finding the right coach can sometimes be overwhelming. Please consider the following recommendations when deciding on your new coach:

· First, watch the coach teach his/her lessons

· Inquire with coach to see if they are accepting new students

· Ask them about their coaching philosophy

· How do they stay current with the sport

· Will your skater and the coaches personality match

· Schedule a few lessons as a trial period

CHANGING COACHES

If for any reason you feel a coaching change is in the best interest of you or your child, please follow the protocol below:

PARENTS OR ADULT SKATERS

· Contact your current coach and express your reasons for wanting to switch to another coach. There may be a  way to correct the situation and the need to switch may no longer be necessary

· Discuss this possible change with your skater.  Make sure he/she is comfortable with potential changes

· Once the decision to change has been made, make sure that you have paid any/all outstanding fees with current coach

· Respect the former coach and all their previous efforts

· Before lessons begin with new coach, the new coach should confirm that these steps have been followed.

SKATERS

· Switching coaches should not affect the skaters relationship with other skaters or other coaches

· Respect the former coach and all their previous efforts

NEW COACH

· Instructs the new parent to make first contact with former coach

· When this has been done, contact the former coach to make sure there is no possible resolution to the situation

· Confirm with the former coach that all outstanding balances are paid in full prior to scheduling any lessons.  Lessons should not be given prior to receiving confirmation

· Respect the former coach and all they have done for the skater
